Atrium Q & A

What is the Atrium?

The Atrium is a large lobby—about half the size of a basketball court—that will be located at the activities entrance to the building. It will be directly adjacent to the old and new gymnasiums as well as the auditorium and cafeteria.

Why is the Atrium needed?

  • The Atrium will be the first area visitors will see when entering our building for events in the gymnasiums or auditorium. It is essentially the school’s entrance and gathering place.
  • The Atrium will join the two buildings—new and old—on both the ground floor and on a second level.
  • The second floor walkway will provide direct access between the new high school and the old study hall and computer lab.
  • The Atrium will serve as a concession area with food items being served from the old weight room through windows to the Atrium.
  • The Atrium also will be the area where students wait for rides after events and practices.

Why wasn’t the Atrium included as part of the bond issue?

Having the Atrium separate from the bond issue was the more economical choice. Adding $750,000 to the bond would have added 1.14 mills to the bond issue, making the total issue 9 mills, which is a significant increase over the 7.86 that was passed. The goal has since increased to $900,000.

How much do we have to raise?

Our goal is to raise $900,000.

How much have we raised?

As of June 1, 2011 we have received approximately $735,000 in pledges and donations.

How much time do we have to raise funds?

Although donations will continue to be accepted, brick orders can be accepted no later than July 1, 2011.

What if we raise more than the goal?

We would consider supporting additional parts of the building project, such as the athletic fields, a weight and fitness center, bus garage, computers, etc.

Will the PSF coordinate the project?

If we raise adequate funds for the Atrium Project, the PSF will serve as the fiscal agent and coordinate the project. Under some circumstances it may be advantageous for the PSF to donate the funds to the school and have the board of education conduct the project. That will be determined when fund raising is completed.
